I know nothing about planting roses? Please help!?

I have bought two boxes of roses from the garden centre and I have planted them. It says on the box that you musn't plant them in wet or frosted weather. So why did they tell me to soak them before planting them? And how long will it take for them to look very rosy?

When you're just starting to garden roses are a tricky thing to start with. Of course the new varieties are more pest resistant and disease resistant so that helps. You should do some reading on how to care for roses so you can get the most out of them too.





As someone else said the roots need lots of water to be hydrated enough to start taking root in your soil. But planting in wet weather can keep them so wet they begin to rot. They don't do well i cold weather so be sure it's warm enough to plant them and be sure they're planted where they get plenty of sun during an average day.

Reply:Depending of the type of rose and the area you live in, they may take a year or to to achieve the bushy rose effect,





they need to be watered alot when first planted to give the roots a good start.





I use spray n grow on my roses and it makes a huge difference... you can buy it on ebay for about $20
Reply:They said to soak the roots before planting to hydrate the plant. All plants suffer shock when transplanted. It is good to prune the ends back a little, but it is not necessary. They should be in a sunny, well drained area. I think what they meant by not planting in wet weather must have to do with the soil, because the rose doesn't care if it is raining when you plant them. Depending on the temperature of the ground and the air they should be looking rosy in a few days, and have roses in a month.
