Do you know of a place I can step back in time?

I am looking for a village or a place where they live life like they used to in the past. You know, no clubs, raves, big shopping centres etc, but a place where their idea of entertainment is things like barn dances, village fetes, markets, all the old fashined, villagey type things. Where they have allotments and gardening competitions. Somewhere quiet and "villagey". Anyone know of anywhere like that? It has to be in the UK.

I used to live in a village called Brancaster. Really friendly folk there. There was line dancing and carpet bowls in the evening for entertainment. There were also village Church fetes in Brancaster and the surrounding villages. The downside of it was that the population grew with "incomers" in the Summertime who had second holiday homes who thought they owned the place! Also as it's fairly close to some beautiful countryside the prices of houses was stupid. Local folk aren't able to afford property there anymore - such a shame.


If you want a quiet life you'll really enjoy it there! I quite miss it!!

Reply:try busch gardens-williamsburg. it has a medieval european theme and some kick*** rollercoasters, just like in the old country.

Reply:Devon in general, Cockington is an old worldly village. Cockington village is a hidden gem of Torquay. It’s one of those old time villages, which has stopped in time. There’s a bus to the village from Torquay which runs daily, also there’s a car park here as well. Narrow windy lanes add to the peaceful atmosphere, there’s also a horse drawn carriage ride for £8 as well. Walk through the gardens and past the cricket ground to a country manor where the carriages all park, you can sit outside and watch the world go by. Inside the house is a elaborate staircase, upstairs there are several craft rooms ranging from pottery to scents and fragrances. Nearby is a 1930's pub and restaurant with varied menu. It has two fireplaces, a brass huntsman's horn and outside tables. There's many walks for dog lovers, and there's the world famous forge. Well worth a visit.

Reply:There's a place called the Beamish outdoor museum. It's like living in victorian times. Look it up.
Reply:The Isle of Arran on the West Coast of Scotland is really quaint with no clubs etc also if you look into going at certain time of the year they would have Highland Games etc on - really nice!!!
Reply:some parts of the cotswolds, but dont listen about ilmington- it is full of hoodies!!! Its too near to an evil place called shipston.
Reply:The Isle of Man , the government still sit on hay bales and a sheep tied to a lampost is considered a leisure centre , public floggings are held in Ramsey square on Tuesdays and hangings once a month on Saturday . Butchers are responsible for healthcare and human rights do not exist .
