As Tesco eats another chain- how long until Earth is renamed 'Tescoworld'?

Our Glorious Leader (ha!) Tesco has just acquired a chain of garden centres. http://www.theappointment.co.uk/news/?id...

How long until the entire planet is Tescofied?!

As Tesco eats another chain- how long until Earth is renamed 'Tescoworld'?
It is an enormous global company now, yes, those claiming otherwise are uninformed. Will the moon be renamed after McDonalds?
Reply:So tesco is the 3rd retailer in the world

I gess the first is wall mart and the second is the french Carrefour, The earth will be renamed "wm-world" or " carrefourworld" before "TESCOWORLD"
Reply:i hate tesco...
Reply:As you're quite right that Tesco is one of the top three food retailers globally, I think you make a fair point.
Reply:What an original post - beats the McCann stuff!

I wonder - they own a brownfield site near my place - they appear to own the whole universe! They are one of the country's biggest land owners.

Its dreadful how we can go anywhere and it all looks the same - same brands, etc - takes all the fun out of going to new places and discovering things
Reply:"By the year 2020 we shall rule the Earth! TESCO Every little helps" - Frankie Boyle. There is your answer 2020
Reply:They are still relatively small compared to other corporations.
Reply:I LOVE TESCO ROLL ON TESCOWORLD
Reply:The reason that Tesco is so successful, is that people want to shop there, and many are open 24 hours a day.

They also sell a wide range of stuff, apart from food, such as clothes, electrical items, kitchenware etc.

I get fed up of people whinging about Tesco (not that you are). It's a great British success story, and we should be proud of it.
Reply:Asda is much cheaper
Reply:I think it would be a good thing, Tesco is great, much better than some other places and very reasonably priced.

Lets hear it for 'Tescoworld' x
Reply:Its big bucks that dominate now, and so the small fry get eaten up, and their expansion rate is truly horrendous, its down to the local councils to stop it, they don't, so there goes another one, up and ready, Blue and Red Banner flying, i never use them.
Reply:I never shop their, but today to my shame I opened a bank account with them. They even got me now, it's like the film Day After Tomorrow, It's like a plague!
Reply:The economic system that we use, automatically gives an advantage to the big 'chain' businesses (and an extra advantage to the biggest of those).

Since the start of the industrial revolution, people have been moved into more and more concentrated living spaces, so that most of us can't get raw food locally. If we were all evenly spread out, rather than crammed into cities, small local producers and suppliers would be a more efficient way of getting the food to everybody (the current supply system involves shipping a lot of produce backwards %26amp; forwards, and storing %26amp; processing it).

Because the small local shops in a city need to obtain their products from a long way away (where the farms are), big chains (who can buy large quantities, at a cheaper price) can undercut them, and take over their trade.

There's no way of stopping this process, unless the rules of finance are changed. Making local communities more self-sufficient will protect us from the 'natural' disasters that are going to be more frequent. The recent floods showed how easily a huge distribution system (not only water supplies %26amp; electricity grids, but food and other essential supplies are also vulnerable) can be disrupted.
Reply:well that is true, but it is the cheapest of the Food outlets, and I would rather have them, than M %26amp; S, it is normally made by the same people, but M %26amp; S charge more for it!
Reply:or Asdominated? Morriswamped? Marks and Spencer er.oh
Reply:i don't know but our tesco is crap if you shop there you have to go to the corner shop to get something for tea.i prefer Safeway
Reply:More like Trashco.

But we get what we deserve.
Reply:Before long Tesco's will rule the UK

Just hope Gordon Brown , is not the chairman
Reply:I doubt Tesco would be able to take over USA since its got Walmart there ^_^
Reply:Hurrah Cheap Plants .....and knickers

I love Tesco's
Reply:as da be soon
Reply:No offense intended.

But the UK is NOT the world - as you so mistakenly seem to believe.

There is no Tesco in:

USA

Australia

NZ

Africa

Possibly not most of Europe Thailand

Need I go on? Please don't develop a "there is no world outside ours" like other nations....
